Darien Cemetery

On December 12, 1854 a group of residents met in the storehouse of Henry Frey to form their cemetery association.  William A. Waterhouse was elected chairman and Parker M. Cole, secretary.  It was determined that six trustees would be elected to manage the affairs of the association.  Soldiers from the War of 1812, Civil War, Mexican War, Spanish American War, World Wars I and II, and Vietnam are interred in this cemetery.  In a listing for this cemetery it appears that the earliest burial is Mary Older, daughter of J.D. and Laura, born 1824 and died February 27, 1840.  This cemetery has lots of old, large tombstones.  Take time to look at the variety of stone and read the inscriptions.
